IT’S CRAZY THAT WE KEEP HEARING of a return to a
“new normal”—it doesn’t seem to me that anything will
feel truly normal for a while. As spas have been reopening,
we have loved to hear their many stories and to see the innovative
changes being incorporated into their preparations.
It still amazes me that the ISPA Spa Reopening toolkit has
been viewed more than 80,000 times and used by other
industries and governments around the world. Kudos to all
the smart brains that worked on that critical resource for
our colleagues.
Zoom has been a valuable tool that has helped make
this unusual time feel a bit more normal by preventing
social isolation. I know there’s talk of Zoom fatigue—and
that makes sense—but we’ve clearly embraced it as a
powerful engagement tool. In some ways, we are more
socially connected now than we ever have been, despite
physical distancing.
Being far away from my family has been hard, and we’ve
relied on our weekly Zoom family hours to stay connected
and supportive of one another. That’s been such a fun
blessing and one we will surely continue even as the world
resets and establishes the “next normal”—a term that I feel
is a better descriptor than “new normal.”
Life may slowly begin to feel this “next normal,” but I for
one hope we continue to unite as a global community
and—as Matthew McConaughey so profoundly states in the
video below—keep all hands on the rope.
