he inaugural ISPA Spa Workforce
Study surveyed 1,226 spa professionals across
a range of roles, generations and locations
throughout the United States. Despite differ-
ences in respondents’ backgrounds, the study
found that a huge overarching theme was loyalty. A large
number of respondents (80 percent) expect to be working for
their current employer 12 months from now.

For managers, a major reason for staying with their current
employer is a positive culture and work environment. For
service providers, the highest motivating factor for staying was
pay and benefits, closely followed by culture and work
environment and good working relationships with colleagues.
These findings just go to show that working to improve and
maintain great culture at work is and will continue to positively
impact your company retention and employee contentedness. n
