plays or experts who claim to know the roadmap to
success. Instead, like light-bearers, they simply want to
illuminate the path so that we are inspired to take the road less traveled.
Mentorship is critical because, as industry leaders, we are tasked to not only identify
rising leaders, but also pass on valuable skill sets and knowledge that can help sustain the
future of the spa industry. However, what is truly amazing about mentorship is that it exemplifies the idea of “giving in order to receive.” When we stoke the fire in others, we are also
ensuring that we continue to fuel the fire in us. Leaders who are genuinely generous with
their time, positive energy and expertise often end up receiving as much as what they’ve
given from those they mentor.
This is why I passionately call on spa leaders to volunteer to become a mentor, and future
leaders to be involved in mentorship opportunities, such as the ISPA Foundation’s Mary
Tabacchi Scholarship and the Global Mentorship Pilot Program. One of the many great
benefits of becoming an ISPA Foundation Mary Tabacchi scholar is the mentorship opportunity that comes along with it.
In the end, whether we were in a formal mentorship program or not, we’ve had people who
