A CONVERSATION WITH

Ben NEMTIN 2023 ISPA CONFERENCE Keynote Speaker

Pulse : You and three friends run “ The Buried Life ” initiative , where you ask strangers ,“ What do you want to do before you die ?” How is making and achieving big personal goals important to mental wellness ? BEN NEMTIN : Oftentimes we think it ’ s selfish to pursue our personal goals and passions , but the truth is , you can ’ t take care of other people if you don ’ t take care of yourself . In addition , by doing the things you love , that brings you joy and happiness . It brings you back to your true authentic self , which increases your wellbeing .
Pulse : You are known for your own 100-item bucket list , but also for helping strangers to accomplish their life goals . Do you encourage community and giving back to be part of everyone ’ s journey ? BN : Absolutely , because when you help someone else , it fills you up in a different way than doing something for yourself . It resonates in a different way . And when you give without expectation , you immediately receive joy . Moreover , when people see you helping others , they are more inclined to help you down the road .
Ben ’ s goal is to help strangers learn how to cross things off their bucket list — and start living their best life .

“ WHEN YOU GIVE WITHOUT expectation , YOU IMMEDIATELY RECEIVE JOY .”
