2021 YEAR IN REVIEW

THE FINAL ISPA SNAPSHOT SURVEY OF THE YEAR asked spa and resource partner members to reflect on their experiences and takeaways from a wild 2021 that saw rising demand for spa services amid lingering COVID-19 concerns . The survey wasn ’ t all business , however , as respondents were also afforded the opportunity to share the experiences and content which inspired them , provided solace or simply made them smile .
KEY TAKEAWAYS
THE SPA INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO FACE STAFFING CHALLENGES , but from those challenges have also risen opportunities for many within the industry to take the next step in their careers . One in five respondents reported either taking a job with a new employer or changing jobs within the same company . That was true for more than a quarter of resource partner respondents ( 26 percent ) and 15 percent of spa respondents .

HARD-EARNED PAY

Seeking Self-Care

Four in ten respondents ( including 53 percent of spa respondents ) indicated that they received a pay raise in 2021 , while 38 percent reported receiving a performancerelated bonus .
MANY WITHIN THE SPA INDUSTRY turned to spa services themselves during what proved to be another tumultuous year , and other forms of self-care continued to prove popular among respondents , a sign that we ’ re all more conscious than ever of the need for balance and restoration .
PRESENCE OF MIND Two-thirds of all respondents said they practiced mindfulness and meditation during 2021 .
SPA PEOPLE , SPA SERVICES
Just under six in ten respondents ( 59 percent ) reported visiting a spa for a treatment outside of work .

BALANCING ACT More than six in ten respondents ( 61 percent ) agreed that their work-life balance was healthy .
FINDING ( AND TAKING ) TIME More than half ( 59 percent ) of respondents agreed that they take time for themselves when needed , while 26 percent disagreed . ■
