Full Throttle Grand Prix - the ultimate RC car driving experience. Our very own miniature version of Fast and the
Furious. In a nutshell, this event entails building a car, and racing to the finish line so as to set a competitive time.
Of course, it’s a remote controlled car. And of course, the race course has an array of obstacles. And of course,
these obstacles aren’t exactly easy to get past. The Rotunda was certainly put to good use on its first official day. I
say official, though it was pre-inauguration. One look at the crowd and we knew what will come of the Rotunda in
days to come (it seems those inconspicuous recesses in ShivG won’t be in as much demand during fest days
anymore).
The event as such could be considered a success. Burning rubber, grunting engines and speed slides - all put
together, it was a pleasing display of the engineering behind remote-controlled cars that were powered by
combustion engines. The fact that it was in the Rotunda seemed to make it even more appealing. The crowd
present was higher in number than usual, according to the regular attendees. Our very own RJV (An Alumnus
Speaks, ref issue) hosted the event.
The cars were speeding, jumping and drifting all over the place. Every time a car successfully completed one
section, there were loud cheers from the crowd; and every time the car banged into the tires marking the course,
loud gasps of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ followed.
Team members would run after the car, to make sure they wouldn’t lose time in case of an accident. There were
moments when all seemed hopeless, when a car just couldn’t get past an obstacle. And then there were moments
when the drivers would leave no doors unopened and race ahead at full speed just to save those few extra
milliseconds. Needless to say, the crowd loved this. Yes, we did too.
