In 2015 , Patel and his family came to the United States where he worked as a photographer in New York for the next five years . So when asked how a photographer from New York ends up running an Indian Grill in Somerset , Kentucky , Patel answered “ business by genetics .”
He said that cooking for bigger groups was “ something that always seemed to run in the family ,” especially his

grandfather who worked as chef . It wasn ’ t until 7th or 8th grade that Patel found his liking for it as well .
In 2020 , he sought to open up his own restaurant .
However , due to high expenses and the rise of COVID-19 , opening one in

New York was a complication . So he found an open opportunity in Lexington , Kentucky where he opened up his first Indian restaurant , Bombay Palace . |
His decision to expand to Somerset was recommended by his friend that owns |
Wildcat Beer , Wine and Spirits . He would ask customers about the idea of an Indian grill opening up in Somerset , to which many said they “ loved it .”
Patel initially thought it would “ maybe not work ” and even considered it a “ risk .” But now Patel is happy to co-own both Bombay Palace and Mirch Masala alongside his brother-in-law Mehul Patel with the help of their wives .
They pride themselves on serving “ authentic Indian cuisine .” Whether it be the naan bread they bake fresh in their clay oven or the biryani rice that uses onions that often have to be boiled over-night .
They also specialize in curry of all heat levels for those who like a little spice in their meals . For those who like things more mild , they offer spice-free options as well .
Mirch Masala strives to be a restaurant for all people .
