“ I ’ m big on local . The people that eat with me are the people that I want to support .”
The Frisch ’ s Big Boy brand got its start back in 1939 with Cincinnati ’ s first year round drive-in , the Mainliner , opened by chain founder Dave Frisch . The Cincinnati-based regional chain — which now includes about 100 restaurants throughout Ohio , Indiana , Kentucky and Tennessee — is known for its large statue of a boy dressed in overalls holding a plate with a cheeseburger — adapted in 1947 from a California-based chain .
Over the years , the Big Boy caricature has been found everywhere from a line of Marvel comics to movies such as " Austin Powers : International Man of Mystery ".
In addition to the iconic
statue out front , the Somerset restaurant also has a mural depicting the Big Boy waterskiing on Lake Cumberland .

Boy platter as top menu picks as well .
As far as condiments go ,
Frisch ’ s Original Tartar Sauce has become so popular that the chain began selling it in pint jars . It ’ s been a Big Boy staple since 1946 when the addition of tartar sauce to the Big Boy sandwich transformed the restaurant ’ s doubledecker hamburger into a Cincinnati favorite — and Somerset of course . “ We have a great community of customers who regularly support us ,”
Hayes said , also crediting membership in the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce for their efforts to promote local businesses .
