7.FISH ANATOMY Most fish are cold-bloded vertibrates (meaning their temperature is regulated by their environment and they have a backbone.) they lives in either fresh or saltwater (sometimes both.) 6.How to Find Fish Understanding what drives fish is the key to finding them in whatever body o f water you may be fishing. 5.How to Cast Your Spinning Rod First assemble your outfit. Tie on a practice plug (cheap insurance against hooking yourself or orthers while you learn) with an improved clinch knot  and set the drag. Hold the rod with your dominant hand. The reel should be below the rod. The reel foot usually goes between your middle finger and your ring finger, but if it feels better (more balanced) between other fingers, go with that. 8.Set the Drag on a Spinning Reel The drag mechanism on your reel is designed to al- low you to set how much resistance a fish feels when it pulls on the line. Drag is measured in pounds. The tighter you set the drag, the more resistance the fish feels. You want to set the drag tight enough that it tires out the fish when you fight it, but not so tight that the line breaks under stress. The most accurate procedure for setting the drag on your reel requires a scale. The drag should be set to 25% of the breaking strength of the line you are using. The breaking strength is the line’s pound test, which should be clearly labeled on the pack- age and spool. The scale method is the most accurate way to set your drag. You can try to set the drag by feel, many people do. But many of these anglers have their drag set too tight and too tight equals lost fish. 3.RIGS AND RINGGING 4.LAKE FISHING A rig is an arrangement of items used for fishing. It can be assembled of one or more lines, hooks, sink- ers, bobbers, swivels, lures, beads, and other fishing tackle. A rig might be held by a rod, by hand, or at- tached to a boat or pier. Some rigs are designed to float near the surface of the water, others are designed to sink to the bottom. Some rigs are designed for trolling. Many rigs are designed especially. ing a single species of fish, but will work well for many different species. Lake fishing is when you fish a body of water that is classified to be a lake. A lake is classified as a body of relatively still water that is almost completely surround- ed by land with a river or stream that feeds into it or drains from it. A lake that has fish that you can catch can either be man-made or natural, with natural lakes tending to have more successful results. Depending on the size of the lake and where it’s located, you may or may not be able to use a boat when fishing. 23
