PSYCHOLOGY | 3
Welcome to the
School of Psychology
Psychology is a large and varied discipline concerned with the systematic
investigation of mind and behaviour. It is a “hands-on” subject in which students learn
practical skills for designing and conducting research as well as developing proficiency
in writing, numeracy, presentation and critical thinking. Our psychology courses enable
students to develop a range of psychological skills that are transferable to other areas
of study and to the world of employment.
Academic staff in Keele Psychology are leading researchers as
well as excellent teachers, with expertise covering the breadth
of psychology from social psychological areas such as crowd
management to areas of cognitive psychology, for example,
face recognition and false memory. Our staff are leaders in
developmental psychology, researching issues pertinent to
children and young people including bullying, and also in studies
addressing adult mental health and well-being.
Psychology is one of the longest established academic
disciplines at Keele University. We appointed our first Professor
(Ian M.L. Hunter) over 50 years ago and since then thousands
of students have graduated in Psychology. Currently we have
some 600 undergraduates plus around 100 students following
postgraduate or professional training courses.
Please read on to find out more about the wealth of opportunities
open to students choosing a Keele psychology degree.
