Psychological Disorders: Growing Hazards of The Society
The psychological or mental disorders are identified as abnormal patterns of behavior of a
particular individual. Millions of people suffer from day to day activities because of their
disorders. In extreme cases, many patients commit suicide or are left estranged as they are not
able to substantiate abnormal actions or express their suffering. Psychological or mental
disorders constitute of 150 different cases, as characterized by the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This system provides the classification of the mental
disorders and also sets the criteria of diagnostic standardization.
According to the latest version of DSM, we have enlisted some of the most common and major
disorders that disrupt the lives of people momentarily or eternally.
Developmental Disorder:
It develops in early age, typically during infancy or childhood. The neurodevelopment disorder is
diagnosed when a child shows the symptoms of any kind of disability related to intellect,
communication, language, attention or hyperactivity. Examples of this disorder include autism
spectrum condition.
Bipolar:
Bipolar in simple words can be explained as extreme mood swings. The level of energy can
change aggressively without any change external conditions. Person suffering from bipolar can
become exceptionally violent or depressed for no reason or for a minor conflict. The condition is
also termed as mania or hypomania.
Anxiety:
The disorder of Anxiety is increasing at an alarming rate. Survey reports revealed that 23 percent
of the Americans suffer from anxiety. People suffering from this condition show behavior
disturbances constituting of emotional response towards threat, fear or worry. The case can be
real or hypothetical. Anxiety disorder is segmented as Generalized, Agoraphobia, Social,
Specific Phobias, Panic disorder, Post-traumatic stress and Separation anxiety disorder.
Eating Disorders:
Generally associated with issues of young girls, this disorder showcases obsessive concerns
related to eating patterns. Eating disorder directly affects the mental and physical health of an
individual. The symptoms arise when one is highly conscious of the body image and tends to eat
