Celebrating an All-America City and Port St. Lucie ' s environmental champions
National Civic League President Doug Linkhart visited Port St. Lucie to celebrate its first ever designation as an All-America City, one of only 10 cities in the nation to receive the award following a competition against cities across the nation, including Denver and Austin. From transforming backyards into butterfly havens to rallying residents for neighborhood cleanups, Port St. Lucie’ s environmental champions took center stage at the City’ s All-America City Award Celebration on Sept. 12.
In a night filled with community pride, the City honored 13 individuals, youth and organizations with its first-ever Naturally PSL Environmental Stewardship Awards, recognizing those who go above and beyond to protect and preserve our natural environment.
The awards reflect the spirit of Naturally PSL: Green Spaces and Places, a resident-driven initiative that includes plans to protect 744 acres of green space, open or improve six parks and add 20 miles of trails. The Naturally PSL initiative also aims to create a Green Land Bank and Conservation Corps. The City’ s Naturally PSL initiative was created with the input of more than 1,000 residents who worked with the City team using innovation learnings from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, the Center for Public Impact and Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins.
