Deep injection well construction at Prineville plant
The 130-foot-tall drill rig at the Prineville Water Treatment Facility is part of the construction equipment being used to build a second deep injection well.
The drill will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week until the well construction is complete, which is expected to be in May 2026. The electric drill is designed to be quieter for residential areas, so as not to disturb our neighbors.
Deep injection wells are an environmentally approved disposal method for the mineral byproduct or concentrate resulting from the reverse osmosis treatment process, like the one used at the Prineville plant, which treats 12 million gallons of drinking water a day. On average, less than 2 million gallons a day of concentrate are disposed of in the deep injection well.
The new deep injection well will be 3,350 feet deep, approximately 2,000 feet below the deepest drinking water wells in the Floridan Aquifer, and will serve as a backup to the existing deep injection well. www. CityofPSL. com / Utility
