2026 Atlantic hurricane season
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration( NOAA) has issued its official forecast for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. This year, it predicts a below-average level of tropical activity across the basin. Forecasters estimate a 55 % chance of a below-normal season, a 35 % chance of near-normal activity and only a 10 % chance of an above-normal season.
NOAA predicts:
• 8 to 14 named storms
• 3 to 6 hurricanes
• 1 to 3 major hurricanes( Category 3 or higher, with winds exceeding 111 mph)
Despite projections indicating fewer storms, NOAA officials emphasize that a single event could result in significant damage to coastal communities. If only one storm comes to our area, it could be devastating, so it is extremely important that we stay just as prepared now than we would if there were to be predicted an active season.
