Drop Savers poster contest winners announced
The City of Port St . Lucie Utility Systems , in conjunction with Florida Section American Water Works Association ( FSAWWA ), invited St . Lucie County school students in grades K-12 to create a poster depicting a water conservation idea in the “ Drop Savers ” poster contest .
The contest teaches elementary-aged school children , and reminds students in middle and high school , about the importance of water conservation . One of the best opportunities to conserve water is through a long-range education and awareness program .
In addition to creating posters , Utility Outreach Assistant Manager Jenny Tomes , aka “ Water Woman ,” was invited to speak to classes about the importance of water conservation and help inspire ideas for their poster entries . A total of 240 poster entries were submitted by eight schools and homeschool groups in St . Lucie County , including Dan McCarty Middle School ; Homeschool ; Ivy League Academy ; Morningside Elementary ; Savanna Ridge Elementary ; Somerset College Preparatory School ; St . Lucie West Centennial High ; and Village Green Environmental Studies School . City of Port St . Lucie employees judged the posters on their messages , creativity and originality . A winner was chosen from each participating grade level .
Each winner will receive a $ 25 Walmart gift card and a T-shirt with their poster printed on it , plus lots of other prizes . The winners are also invited to attend the April 8 City Council Meeting to be recognized for their efforts .
Kindergarten : Cole Douin , Savanna Ridge Elementary
First grade : Hinata Springs , Ivy League Academy
Second grade : Timothy Kitchens , Ivy League Academy
