FDOT completes St . Lucie West Boulevard widening project
The Florida Department of Transportation ( FDOT ) completed the 1.814-mile St . Lucie West Boulevard widening project .
Construction started in January 2022 and improvements to the project included :
• Constructing a new three-lane eastbound bridge over Interstate 95 , separated 10 feet from the existing bridge .
• Widening St . Lucie West Boulevard to accommodate :
• Two eastbound and westbound travel lanes , with a third eastbound lane between the I-95 southbound and northbound ramps
• Two eastbound left turn lanes at the I-95 northbound on-ramp
• Two westbound right turn lanes at the I-95 northbound on-ramp
• Reconstructing / widening the I-95 ramps
• Connecting the existing St . Lucie West Boulevard roadway to the new eastbound bridge from the east and west directions
• Constructing 7-foot buffered bike lanes / paved shoulder and 5-foot to six-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
• Constructing a 22-foot to 40-foot lane-line to laneline curbed median with curb and gutter
• Installing fencing retrofits on the north side of the existing bridge , and new railing on the eastbound bridge
