Puerto Rican Power to bring salsa music to Port St . Lucie
Experience salsa music at its best when Puerto Rican Power and Charlie Cruz make their way to the MIDFLORIDA Event Center outdoor stage on Saturday , April 27 .
Puerto Rican Power was formed in the early 1970s by bassist Jesus Castro and eventually was led by trumpet player Luisito Ayala . Singer Tito Rojas joined Puerto Rican Power
in 1983 and the band ’ s popularity took off . The group recorded a dozen albums , including 1989 ’ s “ Canta Tito Rojas ,” “ El De Mas Poder ” in 1994 and 1999 ’ s “ Men in Salsa .” Apple Music noted that , “ With over three decades of success under their belts , the members of Puerto Rican Power are one of the most beloved salsa ensembles in the genre .”
Charlie Cruz has deep roots in Puerto Rican salsa music . The son of a renowned Puerto Rican musician , music was part of the fabric of Cruz ’ s life . Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the United States , Cruz was drawn to the sounds of salsa and as a teenager he sang with his father ’ s band . He began performing with established salsa acts and started releasing albums in the late 1990s . With more than a dozen albums to his credit and hits like “ Bombon de Azucar ,” “ Amarte es un Problema ” and “ Un Chin Chin ,” Charlie Cruz is widely recognized as one of Puerto Rico ’ s preeminent salsa musicians .
