Public Works engages with community at Citizen Summit
The Public Works Department proudly participated in the annual Citizen Summit, fostering direct engagement with residents and offering a window into the City ' s ongoing and upcoming projects.
The event served as a unique opportunity for community members to interact face-to-face with Public Works staff, ask questions and provide valuable feedback on initiatives that shape their neighborhoods.
One of the highlights was the Traffic Operations booth, where residents could converse with experts about traffic signals, congestion and calming measures. The booth also featured FDOT’ s Target Zero Initiatives, aimed at reducing fatal accidents. This collaboration underscored the city’ s commitment to safety and proactive traffic management.
The road and bridge booth provided a space for residents to share their perspectives and inquire about ongoing infrastructure work. Thomas Salvador was on hand at the“ Ask Tom” table, addressing property-specific concerns and guiding residents through project details.
The drainage and streets manager was available to discuss swale maintenance, offering advice on preserving these essential systems. Meanwhile, the Capital Improvement Projects( CIP) team engaged residents in prioritizing future projects and identifying candidates for sales tax funding, ensuring that community voices help guide investment decisions.
Mobility and beautification also were featured prominently. At the mobility booth, discussions revolved around the City’ s Mobility Plan and developer projects, while the beautification booth showcased a pilot program for sunshade covers and collected feedback on preferred locations for these amenities.
Education took center stage with interactive 3D models, including a roundabout simulation that demonstrated safe navigation techniques. At the stormwater booth, another 3D display illustrated the vital role of swales and drainage systems, accompanied by a fun game led by the NPDES Program Manager to highlight stormwater best practices.
Finally, the 1PSL booth provided hands-on demonstrations for submitting service requests, empowering residents to report issues and track the progress of their concerns. Public Works staff were on hand throughout the summit, reinforcing their commitment to transparency, education, and collaboration.
The Citizen Summit highlighted Public Works’ dedication to listening to residents and involving them in the City’ s growth. Through interactive exhibits, informative conversations and opportunities for input, the department continues to build strong relationships with the community and ensure Port St. Lucie remains a vibrant, resilient city for all. www.
