Update on parks projects
The Preserve at The Port District, 2454 SW Westmoreland Blvd., opened with a ribbon-cutting March 4 to celebrate the new trail system.
Construction at Duck Court Park, 452 SW Rad Court, began in January and will feature shaded pergolas, a decorative three-tier fountain, ADA-accessible picnic tables and benches, bike racks, improved sidewalks, a paved walking and biking path, on-street parking and enhanced landscaping. Construction is expected to last approximately six to seven months, with the park anticipated to open later in 2026.
Construction on Wilderness Trail, situated between Westmorland Boulevard, Cambridge Drive and Morningside Boulevard, began Feb. 4 and includes a 10-foot-wide multimodal concrete trail, a pavilion and restroom, benches and approximately 2.1 miles of trail. It is expected to be completed in August.
New fitness classes and more!
The Parks and Recreation fitness team is thrilled to announce new additions to its class lineup, featuring two temporary Zumba Toning classes with Barb. These classes will take place at 11 a. m. Tuesdays at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center through March 31, and at 11 a. m. Wednesdays at the Community Center through April 1. Additionally, a new Body Sculpting class with Lara will be available at 10 a. m. Fridays through April 24.
Jill Souza and Sandy McKeithen attended the Rock Steady Boxing Head Coach Training in Miami on Feb. 5-6. They were grateful for the opportunity to attend and are enthusiastic about applying the knowledge gained to enhance their program offerings.
