Martin Luther King Jr. celebration
The City of Port St. Lucie ' s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration was held Jan. 18 at Whispering Pines Park.
Residents enjoyed an afternoon of familyfriendly activities, live entertainment, food trucks, children ' s activities, open skating and community engagement.
A speech by retired South Florida lawyer George Knox was followed by a Martin Luther King Jr. community march through the park. This year introduced a call-to-service initiative connecting volunteers with local service opportunities.
TeePop, a Miami-based artist, painted a live mural of Martin Luther King Jr. The event also hosted a book collection drive to support the City’ s Little Free Library Program, by encouraging attendees to donate new or gently used books to the community.
Live music was performed by The Jewel Tones, an all-female vocal trio known for doowop favorites, Motown classics and modern hits with a Motown twist.
