APWA article spotlights Utility Systems employee
The January edition of APWA Reporter , an American Public Works Association ( APWA ) publication , features an article about Kerby Jeanlouis , a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee who was hired right after he graduated high school .
Written by Community Outreach Assistant Manager Jenny Tomes , the article explains how Utility Systems staff met Kerby in February 2024 at a St . Lucie Public Schools job fair for juniors and seniors . They wanted to tell students about four different trainee opportunities Utility Systems offers for candidates 18 and older with a high school diploma . They spoke with hundreds of students that day , and Kerby was one of the only seniors who followed up and asked for a tour of the water treatment plant to learn more about the industry .
He graduated , turned 18 , applied for the trainee position and accepted the offer in June 2024 . Since then , Kerby has learned so much and has been a wonderful addition to Utility Systems staff . His story will hopefully inspire other young people to consider a career in this industry .
