George Lamond
PSDSM had the opportunity to talk with the Legendary George Lamond, Freestyle & Salsa Recording Artist and here is everything he had to tell us...
Tell us about your up bringing?
My upbringing was pretty traditional, strict, and very old school. I had a big time Puerto Rican Catholic upbringing. A lot of people in one tiny apartment but they are the best memories of my life. Tough I was from a not so good Bronx neighborhood I didn't want to fail, so I stayed clear from all the riffraff.
How did you get discovered?
Actually I was One of the lucky ones, I recorded some demo songs with a team of writers, and recorded a couple of demos,I sent them to different independent record companies and I got a few callbacks. I met with them and signed with Chris Barbosa and Mark Ligget Who had a record company called Ligosa records, the rest is history.
Was Freestyle Music given the same respect other genre's get?
I Definitely have to respect major labels for spending a lot of money on producing music videos marketing plans radio promotion and artist development. The only problem was most of these artists were non white. Marketing companies had a rough time trying to promote and sell these acts nationwide. Most of us are pretty rough around the edges and we came from bad neighborhoods eventhough we had a great talent.
