How did you get discovered?

The year after high school I went to my first Puerto Rican day parade and by the end of the night I ended up in “Club Broadway/Broadway 96”. It was my first freestyle concert ever and I saw groups and solo artist perform for the very first time live. Among the ones I met that very first night were Trilogy, Johnny O, Cynthia, Judy Torres, Exo, Arlene, Loose Touch (George LaMond) and Fascination. My father just happened to be head of security so he let me go back stage and hang with the artist. I remember watching them from the side of the stage and thinking to myself that I could definitely do what they just did. At that moment I made a decision I wanted to try this out and the next day I called the number on the bottom of Johnny O’s autographed picture. The number was to his manager at the time, the legendary George Vascones. George got a kick out of the fact that I called his office and simply said, “Hi, my name is Jeffrey Martinez and I think I want to be a singer.” Apparently that wasn’t the way most artists got signed, lol. George believed in me and gave me a storybook shot at the industry and the rest is history. I guess the old adage that being in the right place at the right time can be very real!
