Was Freestyle music given the same respect other genre's get?
In the beginning I felt we where gaining huge respect within the music industry as a whole. I can remember a handful of cable and TV shows who supported Freestyle music. Radio on the other hand were charting and booking acts. It was good to have politics between two top 40 stations jockeying for acts and celebrities. It felt great, one thing I did notice was not to many awards shows took the time to recognize our careers, which I thought was odd, But then this respect fell into individualities, Because of the lack of unity and support by media and main stream radio falling apart. We never became the corporate giants, like Pop, Rock N Roll or Hip Hop which by the way (Hip Hop) started nearly around our era of time. Why did I mention "individuals" because with respects to my career I have been considered most of my career to be either "The King of Freestyle or the Prince of Freestyle?" Titles, which I earned from my fans and the industry as a whole. It was humbling to be known and respected for representing something you loved, But this is where I found out what impact I had and the respect in the industry I maintained? My fans can tell you I am a unique individual, Fantasy Girl and Dream boy went "Pop." And was known in the industry as pop songs not freestyle songs? So this opened up opportunities for me to venture into other formats of music which I wasn't afraid or ashamed of. I've been experimenting with EDM and released a song which surprisingly did well in the underground market, But what I've learned was that there was a huge respect in the music industry toward my career. I had many conversions with many major labels reps and they had major admiration toward me and my career, It opened my eyes and set a new perspective on my future. Now I understood the stature which other formats where presenting toward me and my career. This has given me a new outlook on my career and who I'm looking at in the mirror every morning!
