The thing I enjoy most about school
board service is the nights when we have student recognition
at the board meetings , because it ’ s all about the students .
“ I ’ d always been involved in the schools , with the PTOs and we have a community advisory council that I was a part of for several years . Honestly , that was really the next step that came about naturally for community service ,” he says . Noticing his interest and experience , existing school directors who were also on the community advisory committee encouraged him to run for school board . His involvement with LCTI and PSBA soon followed .
More than eight years later , Hein is preparing to enter his third term at Parkland . The legislature should follow through with what it has already passed regarding the basic education money that is intended to go through the funding formula ,” he says .
Safety and security issues are also at the top of the list for items affecting schools this year , Hein says . As PSBA ’ s representative on the statewide School Safety and Security Committee , established within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency by Act 44 of 2018 , he says it ’ s important for the association to be included in the committee ’ s discussions . “ Whether it ’ s environmental , whether it ’ s buildings and grounds , whether it ’ s mental health that the state is trying to advocate for , PSBA needs to have a voice . Also , if there are going to be
