Since agriculture is vital to Pennsylvania ’ s economy , it ’ s important to celebrate it and the people who work in the farming industry . Pennsylvania ’ s fairs offer the opportunity for everyone in the state to experience agriculture . From livestock showcases to award-winning fruits , vegetables and baked goods , Pennsylvania ’ s fairs showcase agriculture and give young people , who would not normally come into contact with animals , the opportunity to learn and interact with them .
According to the Census of Agriculture published in 2019 , Pennsylvania land is approximately 25 % or 7.3 million acres farmland . A total of 280,500 people work on Pennsylvania farms . Mushrooms and export grade hardwoods are the leading products . While the state ranks among the top five states for poultry layers , milk from cows , Christmas trees , and the nursery , greenhouse , floriculture , and sod sectors .
While most of the Commonwealth ’ s fairs are held from spring through October , the largest event is held in early January inside the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex , which is a million square feet . The show is the largest indoor agricultural event under one roof in the nation .

About the Show : The 106th Pennsylvania Farm Show is back in person after it hosted a virtual show online last year . The 2022 theme is Harvesting More . Attendees have the opportunity to see all the best that Pennsylvania agriculture has to offer with competitions for the top livestock , equine , fruits , vegetables , plants and trees , baked goods and other handmade items , rodeo , races , a large butter sculpture and much more .
The famous food court is also very popular , including its baked potatoes , stuffed mushrooms and milkshakes . This year , 24 craft breweries will be on hand for you to taste and take home your favorite brew .
New events / showcase for 2022 : Canine Spectacular will feature speed and agility contests for our furry best friends . Webbed Wonders is a water fowl habitat with ducklings . Visitors can view in-person or online via the live-cam . Educational adventures with the National Museum of Industrial History provides a new scavenger hunt for children . So You Wanna ’ Be A Farmer is a new section where you learn all you need to grow your groceries for a hobby or to earn a living . The Frontier Finals Rodeo features a new session on what it takes to be a rodeo clown , barrel racer or rodeo queen . The Cowboy Church , cornhole tournament and truck and tractor pull demonstration and country line dance-off are also new this year .
