After centuries of logging, the country had consumed much of its natural resources, once enormous.
But all this has changed. Today, Norway has three times more wood in the forests than it did 100 years ago. Annual logging accounts for only half of the wood that grows each year, so forests are growing.

"In the 19th century, there was a lot of logging, we exported a lot of timber to Europe from our west coast," says Viken. "By the end of the 19th century, the government realized that there would be no trees left.
