On May 16th, 1897 , the new Calderon Theater displays his clinched shadow on Hidalgo Avenue ; the astonishment of all those attending the inauguration is huge . Following the fashion imposed in Mexico during the regime of Porfirio Diaz, the building mimics the canons of the Italian and French schools, in a neo -Renaissance style ,
in the decoration of the facade and the horseshoe -type construction.
Fifty years after the theater is placed in the hands of the now Autonomous University of Zacatecas ( UAZ ) , this institution continues administering it .
