The Australian healthcare providers sector is expected to generate total revenues of $143 billion in 2012, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5% between 2008 and 2012. In comparison, the Chinese and Japanese sectors will grow with CAGRs of 15.9% and 0.3% respectively, over the same period, to reach respective values of $406 billion and $541 billion in 2012.

The outpatient care segment is expected to be the sector’s most lucrative in 2012, with total revenues of $44.9 billion, equivalent to 31.4% of the sector’s overall value. The inpatient care segment will contribute revenues of $39.4 billion in 2012, equating to 27.6% of the sector’s aggregate value.

The performance of the sector is forecast to decelerate, with an anticipated CAGR of 5.8% for the five-year period 2012 – 2017, which is expected to drive the sector to a value of $189.3 billion by the end of 2017. Comparatively, the Chinese and Japanese sectors will grow with CAGRs of 11.7% and 1% respectively, over the same period, to reach respective values of $704.6 billion and $568.8 billion in 2017.
