I ’ m sure you don ’ t need me further extrapolating quite what a last 12 – 14 months we have seen . It has been a period that we have all had to live through and each has a story .
For many it has been a time of great trauma , sadness , lost time and opportunity . Without doubt , for many others it has proved to be a very testing time . However , such is the ying and yang of our world and I have heard some say it has been a time of learning more about themselves , actually enjoying time spent with the family and creating new bonds , whether that has been with new arrivals , family or even with neighbours .
In years to come , I wonder quite how this period will be viewed and what the historians will go on to say about the Covid pandemic and the start of the 2020 ’ s – and dare I say it , whether we are actually through it quite yet .
The protection world has reported similar outcomes of ying and yang . Protection sales didn ’ t rocket to an all time high off the back of the pandemic as such , for a whole host of reasons , but policy cancelations haven ’ t been as high as first considered . Claims have increased as how could they not . What has happened , put plainly , is for a period we all , as a global nation , came to terms with the fact that actually we are mortal and whilst in 2019 the chances of anything happening to us was very low , with the onset of the virus , we came to appreciate that there was something ‘ out there ’ that was such an unknown that it could have a very serious impact and therefore this became a time of reconsideration . Having turned a half circle for a period , advisers have reported a change in engagement and in many cases it is the client that is now starting the conversation .
This new-found mortality now needs to be met with your support and advice .
