Sample for Designing Service Learning Activity Module 7: I Can Plan for a Successful Future Student Goals: The student will: Increase understanding of careers targeted for study. Develop presentation and creativity skills. Resources Needed: Resource people from the community, socks, buttons, mini-stage, yarn, etc. (materials for a puppet show) Preparation for Service Activity: The teacher will work with the students to come up with a list of careers in which students might be interested. Resource people from the community will be invited into the classroom to talk about their careers and some of the basic requirements for gaining employment in their respective fields. Students will then learn to make puppets and develop skits. (This might be an appropriate time to collaborate with art and/or related arts teachers or solicit volunteers from the community.) The teacher will assist the students in developing their puppet shows about specific careers. He/she will schedule times for students to perform their puppet shows. Service Activity: The students will develop and perform a puppet show about careers to an audience made up primarily of other students. Type of Service: Indirect Reflection: The students will come together to talk about career choices that they are interested in and the skills needed for these careers.
