Just What Is a Portfolio? Teacher Resource Defining the Portfolio A portfolio is a collection of a learner's work and reflections gathered over a period of time. The collection demonstrates the skills, perceptions, and development of the learner. The contents of a portfolio may take a variety of forms, including but not limited to essays, research, videos, slide presentations, photographs, original art, posters, collages, cartoons, book reviews, narratives, surveys, interviews, commentaries, letters, or class assignments. The portfolio may be presented in many ways, such as in notebook or electronic form, depending upon its contents. For each module of DreamQuest, there is a student handout with the portfolio assignment for that module. Also included are portfolio assessment formats for four-week and six-week grading periods.
