First Step: Reality Check Go For Your Goals! Fraudulent fantasies can set you up for failure. If you’re only 5’ 2” tall on your good height days, don’t make being the next supermodel your life’s work. If you reach for too many out-of-sight rainbows, you’ll begin to feel that nothing is within your grasp. Also, know that goals often have a price. This isn’t bad. It’s just the way life is. For example, if you want to raise your grades, putting in some serious study time may cut into hanging out with friends. Success Stimulators: You’ve got the dream. You’ve got the goal. Now, use these recommended tactics to help you perfect your aim: v Write a success scenario. Be specific. For example: “I feel really comfortable in my new school, and I’m making friends easily!” Now imagine exactly how you’d feel, both mentally and physically. Practice that feeling, and commit it to memory! v Chart your ambitions. Write your goal at the top of a large piece of paper with sub goals underneath. List the steps you’ll take to meet each one –– then take action! Chart your achievements in a notebook as a success record! v Congratulate yourself. Each time you achieve even part of your goal, take note. That mental pat on the back spurs you on! v Prevent procrastination. Resolve to take a step, even a small one, every day.
