STANDARD:
Students will establish viable goals, including attending and graduating from college.
Students will analyze the importance of setting goals.
Brainstorm, identify, and write their short-term and long-term goals.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Begin the class by playing some lively music with a good beat. Display “Set a Goal”
on your Smart Board, Team Board, Promethean Board, etc. and ask students to read it
with you with rhythmic expression. Allow them to clap softly, beat, snap their fingers
and/or do motions to it if they like.
Divide the class into three groups.
v Have all the students say in unison the first line.
v Group one will say line two
v Group two will say line three
v Group three will say line four
v All will say line five
(Encourage them to use expression, motions, etc.) You may want to do a couple of
rounds or have groups exchange lines.
An alternative would be to use rap background rhythms (Make a CD of rhythms) and
make a rap out of the “Set a Goal” poem.
