ASSESSMENT:
Choose one or more of the following means of assessment:
1. The students will create a word collage using Wordle (www.wordle.net) depicting
their dreams. Encourage them to be creative when choosing their words, fonts, and
colors. You can print these collages for your students and display them in the
classroom.
2. The students will pretend it is fifty years into the future. They will write a paper
explaining their dreams and how they made them come true.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
v Ask students to interview their parents/guardians using the questions below;
afterwards, they can write a journal entry based on the responses.

Tell about a dream (goal) that came true for you. How did you make that
dream become a reality?
What dreams do you have now? What are you doing to make them a reality?
v Have students share their dreams (ones that have come about and ones they are still
working on) with their parents/guardians. Record their comments, praise, and/or
suggestions.
v (Optional) Invite a panel of parents/guardians into class to discuss dreams
accomplished and dreams yet to be accomplished. Topics can include personal
dreams, dreams for their children and future generations, and dreams for mankind.

MODULE 7:
4. (Optional) Each student will write a letter to himself about his future
dreams. Put the letter in an envelope, and write a date five years into the
future on the sealed flap of the envelope. Instruct each student to put his
letter in a safe place and to wait until the date on the back of the envelope to
open the letter.

3. The students will select a meaningful excerpt or passage from the speech and create
interpretive artwork to demonstrate the meaning. They will include an explanation of
the symbolism they have chosen to include in their artwork. Use I Have a Dream
illustrated edition by Scholastic Press (I3BN 0-590-20514-1) to show students
examples of paintings.
