DESCRIPTOR:
Students will compare their priorities to their behavior.
ACTIVITIES:
Part One
1. Begin by having the students complete the “Evaluating Your Priorities handout.” Tell
the students that what we value determines what our priorities are. (If needed, explain
that priorities are things that come first in our lives because they are so important to
us.)
2. Divide the students into groups and have them share why they ranked the priorities in
the order they did. Then tell the students you are going to give them a chance to “put
their money where their mouth is.” You are going to conduct a Values Auction.
3. Distribute the “What Do You Value?” handout. (If you want to make it more
interesting and authentic for the students, you may prepare play money ($3,000) or a
$3,000 gift certificate for each student and a bidder ID number sign for each student.)
Distribute these along with the “What Do You Value?” handout.
4. Ask participants to take a few minutes, and look over the items in order to determine
how much money to bid for the items. They are to budget for only the items they
