Students will analyze the need for reality-based decision making.

how many students feel they have the potential to have a professional sports career.
Let them share the sport and team of their choice for their pro career.
2. Divide the students into learning teams. You may want to let each team choose a
name. Distribute a copy of “Pro Dreams and Realities” to each student. Discuss the
information about the chances of pursuing a career in the professional sports world.
3. Tell them they are going to watch a video called Hoop Dreams to learn more about
the issues involved in making the decision to go pro.
4. After viewing the video, allow time for the teams to discuss what they felt was most
important to take away from the story. Allow each group to share their most
significant points with the other teams in the class.
ASSESSMENT:
The students will pretend they have been offered a professional sports contract their
senior year in high school. They are to write a letter addressed to the coach of the drafting
