in a while to goof off with your friends and build those relationships, too. All of these areas are
important in their own way and to dismiss any one of them entirely will leave a hole in your life. Enjoy
pursuing your top goals, but keep your eyes open for ways to grow in the other areas, too.
PRETTY CLOSE (If your two lists were close but not exactly the same, you’re doing well.)
Chances are you feel good about the way you spend your time and energy. For the most part, you
know yourself and what’s important to you. This self-exam may just help you fine-tune that
understanding.
If you were surprised by any of your quiz results, you may need to examine why your scores turned out
that way. Think about where you spend the most time, who you’re with most often, what things you
think about regularly. Chances are, these are your true priorities.
If you want an item to be different, take actions to make it happen. A priority isn’t really determined by
what you think should be most important to you; it’s based on what you actually do. Now’s your
chance to decide what other areas are most important to you –– and which ones aren’t so important ––
and to start working toward those goals, too.
DO SOME SOUL-SEARCHING (If your two lists were not even a close match, you’ve got some
thinking to do.)
You need to take the reins of your life, and decide what’s most important to you. You can’t do
everything, and if you keep trying, you’ll end up being mediocre at everything and outstanding at
nothing. It may be that you’ve never really thought about your priorities before.
Sit down and write out a mini-diary of the past week. Which of these areas did you spend the most
time on? Most likely, they are the same areas that came up as your top priorities on the quiz. What
events did you record carefully? What did you skip over? If you wrote down everything your
boyfriend/girlfriend wore this week, but forgot to mention an A on your math test, chances are
boys/girls are higher on your list than school!
Are the people or things that are most important to you getting the attention they deserve? Write a list
of what you would like your priorities to be, and tape a copy in a place where you’ll see it often - your
locker or on the bathroom mirror. Read it every day. Think about it every time you make a choice.
Before you know it, your decisions will start to line up with your priorities, and you’ll feel a lot more
content about how you’re spending your time and energy.
