Lead them to understand that teaching academic content may be easier than
teaching something about values, but a good teacher does both.
ASSESSMENT:
Choose one or both of the following means of assessment:
1. Students will write in their journals about one thing that they have learned in school
that was a value rather than a fact or academic skill. They will explain how learning
this value has helped them.
2. Students will develop a list of values they believe they are learning in school. They
can compare and contrast their list of values with a partner’s list. The list can be
included in their portfolios.

I Can Teach Others
Ask the students to write letters, poems, or songs to their parents/guardians thanking
them for the values the parents/guardians have imparted within the home. Students might
want to include some of the ideas from “All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in
Kindergarten” if they are fitting, but encourage them to add their own individual
examples as well. (Note: These products would make excellent additions to the portfolio
to be given to the parents/guardians at the end of the course.)
