STANDARD:
Students will recognize the characteristics of effective teaching.
DESCRIPTORS:
Students will evaluate positive and negative aspects of the teaching profession.
Students will identify rewards and challenges of teaching.
Students will predict future educational movements based on past and current events.
ACTIVITIES:
Students will debate the pros and cons of teaching through a debate of approximately 30
minutes.
1. Distribute a copy of the “Pros and Cons of Teaching” handout to each student.
2. Discuss the pros and cons of teaching with the class to determine their views.
3. Create a list of the pros and cons of the teaching profession on the board or Smart
Board. Students should write the responses on their handouts to use as background
information as they prepare for the debate.
