C) Teams must stop when time is called. (Use your judgment as to the number of
minutes allowed.)
When time is called, the teams will count the number of answers they came up with
(repeats don’t count) and then read them aloud for the class to check for validity. This
will ensure students take the questions seriously as well as allow all students to
benefit from the learning of others.
7. Read the following question aloud, allow think time with no writing, and then give
the signal to start.
v What did you learn about teaching or about yourself from your experience as a
teaching assistant that you didn’t know before?
Bring closure to the session by giving students time for further processing. You may
have to clarify and help them put their experiences in perspective.
1. Homework Club (offer on-going tutoring services after school to help students with
their homework)
2. Child-Care Service for PTO meetings
3. On-going service to teachers outside of ProTeam class time
ASSESSMENT:
Students will write thank-you notes to their cooperating teachers. The notes should
include an explanation of how they (the students) benefitted from their teaching assistant
experiences and what impact these experiences will have on them in the future. Students
may place copies of the notes in their portfolios.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
v Ask parents if they can volunteer some time to monitor or to tutor the Homework
Club. It might be too much to ask the ProTeam teacher to commit to this
responsibility full time, but if a committee of parents—led by a chairperson—could
provide services, the Homework Club has a greater chance of being successful.
v Parents may bring their younger children or neighbors’ children to serve as an
audience for the ProTeam students when they teach mini-lessons.
v Parents might need to help provide transportation to the elementary schools so that
ProTeam students have the opportunity to serve as teaching assistants.
