Instruct students to copy the following directions on the inside of the front cover of their booklets: v This activity is to inspire happiness and provide encouragement. It is not for putdowns! v Give this booklet and button or sticker to someone who receives a compliment from you. v Once you’ve given the compliment, sign the booklet and hand it to the person you complimented. (Sign the booklet only once.) v Return it to (ProTeam Teacher), Room #____ at the end of the day. 4. Encourage students to individualize and decorate the covers of their booklets. 5. Some students may want to pass their booklets to special education classes, exploratory classes, or different grade levels. Include as many students in the school as possible. v To be a winner all you need is . . . v The most positive statement ever made to me was . . . v The last time I gave someone a compliment was when . . . 8. Allow students to share their journal entries with the class. Extensions: 1. It has been said that teaching is one of the most worthy and honorable professions in life; however, teachers and educators don’t always receive enough positive statements. v Encourage students to first look around at their own school, district, and county for ways teachers and educators are given positive affirmations. v The class will brainstorm positive statements or affirmations for teachers in their school, district, and county. v Students will be placed in groups to research on the internet. Students can use the internet to locate other ways teachers are recognized statewide and nationally. v If possible, have students use e-mail to send teachers affirmations. Students will keep a log of all information gathered or sent. 2. Students can complete the “Observation Sheet” handout based on their experiences in other classes and throughout the school over a designated time period (day(s), week) PROTEAM DREAMQUEST CURRICULUM 4-10 MODULE 4: 7. On the day the Miles of Smiles booklets are being circulated around the school/grade level, the students will write a journal entry using one of the following prompts: I Can Think Positively 6.
