Instructions for Four Cultures Every culture has a way of welcoming visitors. Your group is to create specific ways of expressing each activity below in accordance with the traits and characteristics of your cultural group. It's your job to imagine those traits and characteristics. You are also expected to create and wear a costume that reflects your culture (including some kind of hat or headdress). Be as verbal as you want to be and create as many gestures as you wish, but be careful that the way in which you express yourself reflects your cultural traits. Here are the activities: v The equivalent of waving hello as guests approach from a distance. v The equivalent of a close greeting, like the custom of shaking hands. v The equivalent of inviting your guests to come in or come with you. v The equivalent of inviting your guests to sit down on a chair, floor, etc. v The equivalent of inviting your guests to take part in refreshments. v The equivalent of seeing your guests to the door and bidding farewell. The second part of this activity will be to act out your roles by visiting other groups. If you are the host group, demonstrate your traits and act out your host activities as you have designed and rehearsed them. If you are the visitor group, maintain the traits and attitudes that are characteristic of your group, but allow your hosts to treat you according to the rules of their own culture. (For example, when your host group greets you, you will return your own culture's greeting.) PROTEAM DREAMQUEST CURRICULUM   3-33
