6. Personal Hygiene Demonstrate for your classmates how to have good personal hygiene. You may want to act out the things students can do each day to look clean and smell clean such as bathing, using deodorant, combing your hair, brushing your teeth and wearing clean clothes. You could show how other students react to someone who does these things versus someone who has bad breath and smells sweaty. 7. Rhythm and Pace Explain to your classmates that your rhythm and pace are related to your activity level. Role play for the class how problems are created when you don’t notice the speed of others around you and respond to it. Examples might be A) Your family has to wait on you every day as you slowly get ready for school. B) You run around and can’t sit still at recess while your friends sit talking. C) Your teacher and classmates have to wait for you to get out your book and homework. Have students talk about situations where it’s okay to be “laid back” and take your own time versus those where you need to pick up the pace. 8. Manners Tell your classmates that having good manners can take a person a long way in life, but poor manners can turn people off. You and your partner will give out the descriptions of the “Bad Manners Misfits” to selected classmates using the “Bad Manners Misfits Descriptions” handout (ask your teacher for it). Let each “misfit” and a friend(s) of his or her choice act out his or her bad manners scenario. (Names may be changed to match gender of students.) Give the rest of the students in the class a list of the “Bad Manners Misfits” names. Students will try to identify each misfit’s name based on his actions. Remind students not to blurt out the names but to wait until the role-play is completed. Bad Manners Misfits’ Names A) Hogit Harriet B) Motor Mouth Montae C) Interrupting Ellen D) Winnie Whiner E) Gerald Gross F) Handy Andy G) Rosita Rude H) Wayne Wrecker I) Bernetta Barger After they complete their role plays, ask the class if they would like to spend the day with these “Bad Manners Misfits.” Remind them that good manners show others that you care about them.
