The Zone Game Instructions
Situation 1: You are talking with family and close friends about feelings and other personal
things. How close should you stand?
Situation 2: You are rather noisily greeting your friends and engaged in friendly chit-chat. How
close should you stand?
Situation 3: You are talking with friends fairly quietly about everyday things such as the
weather, sports, school, etc. How close should you stand?
Situation 4: You are not talking but using gestures and your posture to communicate. How close
should you be?
Zone Game Answers
Situation 1: From “up close” to 1½ feet
Situation 2: From 4 feet to 12 feet apart
Situation 3: From 1½ feet to 4 feet
Situation 4: From usually beyond 12 feet
Teacher’s Note: As a review, allow the students to remain standing in their correct zones.
Starting with Zone A, have each pair explain when their zone is appropriate.
