Students will examine the characteristics of effective communication.
Students will practice giving and receiving positive comments.
ACTIVITIES:
The teacher will read “All Good Things” aloud and discuss the effects this activity had on
Sister Mrosla’s students when she used it with her class. Discuss why it’s important to
give and receive positive comments. Have students explain the statement: “Sometimes,
the smallest of things, can mean the most to another.”
1. Provide each student with a “Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall, What’s Best about Us All?”
Have each student write his/her name on the handout and put it face up on his/her
desk.
2. Students will move around the room from desk to desk and write a positive and true
comment about the person whose mirror (handout) they are facing. Consider using
things they’ve learned during other activities.
3. When students return back to their own desks, have them read their affirming
comments and discuss the feelings we all have when someone makes positive
comments to us.
4. Relate Sister Mrosla’s story to the Mirror, Mirror activity.
