DESCRIPTOR:
Students will evaluate themselves as diverse individuals, learners, and community
members.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Distribute the “Understanding Stress” worksheet. Review the material as a whole
group.
2. Create a class set of response signals. These can be shaped like a paddle. You can use
cardboard or another sturdy material to create these. A template is provided, but feel
free to create your own unique design. One side should be colored green representing
NO stress. The other side is colored red representing stress. These signals will be used
to elicit non-verbal responses from students. You can prepare these ahead of time or
have the students create them. These can also be used as silent ways to communicate
yes or no, true or false, positive or negative, or finished/not finished. Think of
creative ways to use them.
3. Explain how the paddles work. Then complete the activity at the bottom of the second
page of the “Understanding Stress” worksheet.
