FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
Have the students interview their parents/guardians about their (parents’/guardians’)
names and record the answers in a journal entry. Students might want to ask the
following questions:
v Do you like your name? Why or why not?
v Do you know why your parents chose this name for you?
v Do any other relatives have your name as well? If so, who?
Misuse could include examples like the following:
• being called a form of your name you don't like (Example: You’re called Joey
when you prefer Joseph.)
• being called by your first or middle name when you prefer the other
• being called by a birth certificate name rather than a preferred nickname
• having your name mispronounced by someo
