STANDARD:
Students will evaluate themselves as individuals and identify their roles in society.
DESCRIPTOR:
Students will identify attributes necessary for success in their ideal careers.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Distribute the “When I Grow Up” sheet ((can be accessed electronically @
http://www.bethpage.ws/bhs/jgranieri/Career%20Interest%20Worksheet.pdf).
2. Ask students to think for a moment about their ideal future career:
v What was the first thing they remember wanting to be when they were younger?
(Have students to draw a picture in the space provided.)
v Is that desire still true today? If not, what do they want to be now?
v Would it be a career that allows them to be outdoors for much of the day?
v Would it be a career that allows them to travel, meet people, do lots of problem
solving, etc.?
v What are the things that would be important to them in a career?
3. Ask for a show of hands if they have seriously considered what characteristics they
would like in a career.
Tell them they are going to complete a career interest survey and a career planning
