4. Ask the students how many of them constantly feel stressed out. How many feel they
have little or no stress at all? Explain that people are all unique in a number of ways,
including their stress levels. Something that might activate a stress response in you
might not bother someone else and vice-versa.
5. Distribute the “Stress Test,” and tell them that it might be helpful to find out about
their stress levels and share their results with others.
6. Allow time for students to complete and score their stress tests and share their results.
Do they believe the results are accurate and captured some of their uniqueness when
it comes to their stress levels?
7. Distribute the “Follow Your Breath” worksheet. Review the instructions for the
breathing exercise with the students. Practice the 10-minute Follow Your Breath
exercise with the students. It is recommended that you do this in a circle.
8. Have students answer the following questions in their journals:
Students will spend 10 minutes each day over the next three days to practice the Follow
Your Breath exercise. Students should maintain a log of this practice and write a short
description of how the practice impacted their stress level each day. Students should be
given an opportunity to share completed sheets in small groups. Whole-group processing
should be led by the teacher after small group sharing.
